Although residential insurance policies vary slightly depending on where you live, standard homeowner’s insurance plans will typically help pay to repair damage caused by certain risks or perils, including:
Ask us about an all-risk policy, which covers so much more than a pick-and-choose rider* that is added to your policy.
*A basic insurance policy can have additional coverage added to it, above the base policy coverage. This additional coverage is called an “insurance rider.” It is also referred to as a floater or an endorsement. A rider must be attached to a standard insurance police because a rider is not a standalone insurance product. A rider might also be referred to as a “perils policies.”
Be sure your residential policy includes extended dwelling coverage. Extended dwelling coverage adds an extra layer of protection above your policy limits.
With extended dwelling coverage, the insurance company will replace or rebuild your property even if the costs exceed your policy’s coverage. However, there is a limit to how much they’ll pay (usually 20–25% above the amount you’re insured for unless you opt for more coverage). Keep in mind, the higher your home’s value, the higher the need for extended dwelling coverage.
Another note about residential insurance: Check with your agent about what your policy covers and what it doesn’t.
An all-risk insurance contract, sometimes called an “open perils policy,” offers you coverage and protection from all risks that could damage your home, contents, and personal property. However, you will want to make sure that there are no risks specifically excluded in the wording of the policy. For example, an “all risk” homeowner’s policy may exclude flood coverage. If so, it will be expressly written in the policy terms.
We know all these terms can be overwhelming. That’s why IGT Insurance Professionals is here for you. We live and breathe insurance language. You can either waste your valuable time and do the research on your own, or you can ease your life and make an appointment with us. Which would you prefer?
Owning a business today means that you can be held liable for virtually anything and everything. This is even more true in the hospitality industry, where businesses can be named lawsuits for incidents that occurred off the premises or were only vaguely connected to the actual establishment.
Marine insurance involves a lot of thought about what you need covered. Your contents within a watercraft, art, guests, employees, docks, terminals, mechanical, acts of nature—all of this can be protected with marine insurance. It is in your best interest, and in the interest of all that you do, to have the policy that is right for you.
